Two students from the University of Northampton have been appointed to the regional board of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Emre Gultutan and Jesse Dillon are studying the MSc International Logistics programme at Northampton Business School and attended their first board meeting on 19th November.

Emre commented: “When we heard that the CILT Northamptonshire Group was looking for student board members, we decided to volunteer and get involved. As these roles are very new, the activities have been left to evolve over the time we spend as board members.

Initially we will attend the meetings to give a student perspective on the issues being faced by the logistics and transport industry. As the logistics sector is currently suffering a skills shortage, the board hope to get a variety of new members, including ourselves and new young professionals, to add to the existing expert members’ opinions to think of new ideas as a team to solve such issues.”

The CILT Northamptonshire Group is part of the East Midlands. Liam Fassam, Senior Lecturer at the University of Northampton is also the Chair of the group. He commented: “The Centre of Excellence Logistics and Supply Chain (CELAS) has been working with local businesses and authorities in understanding the landscape of future logistics and supply chain education. Employers are actively looking to engage with the ‘talent of the future’ earlier in their learning processes and in partnership with CILT, CELAS saw an opportunity for student engagement to address this need. In doing so, the student involvement is shaping thinking in terms of future sector innovation whilst giving them a great opportunity to network with the current business leaders in the sector.”
