Spirax Sarco UK, the steam system specialist, has completed the acquisition of Valve and Control Engineering (VCE), based in Carluke, Scotland.

VCE provides steam users throughout Scotland with a complete service to manage their annual boiler insurance inspections and recertification. This includes the preparation of boilers, pressure plant and associated valves for inspection, organising the inspector’s visit and carrying out or sub-contracting necessary repair, refurbishment and testing work required in order to gain recertification.

There is a large installed population of steam system components in the steam industry, with many users preferring to repair or refurbish rather than replace with new. The VCE acquisition is therefore an important milestone in Spirax Sarco UK’s commitment to developing its services business.

Under Spirax Sarco UK’s ownership, VCE’s services will be made available to all Spirax Sarco customers in Scotland and its valve service capability will be extended to include control valves and other steam specialty products.

Sheldon Banks, regional general manager at Spirax Sarco UK, said: “VCE has a very good reputation amongst its customers and its services are already in demand beyond its current capacity. We are positive that this acquisition will help VCE realise its growth potential and we look forward to many years of strong performance by VCE as part of the Spirax Sarco Group”.

Current owner of VCE, Stephen Jack, will remain in the business as Technical Director. He will be joined by key Spirax Sarco UK personnel to form the VCE management team – Frank Milloy as operations director and Sheldon Banks as managing director.
