Wincanton, the largest British logistics company, has once again highlighted the importance of health and safety in everyday operations following the award of the Alcumus SafeContractor Plus accreditation. The accreditation is in recognition of achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace, and in equality, diversity and environmental management to satisfy the additional Plus level of the accreditation.

Alcumus SafeContractor is one of the leading third party accreditation schemes that recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management. The scheme provides a health and safety audit service for businesses looking to demonstrate to customers their commitment to ensuring a safe working environment. In addition to the standard audit, Wincanton elected to pursue the additional SafeContractor Plus accreditation that also took in to account equality, diversity, and environmental sustainability, and reflects the three pillars of Wincanton’s corporate social responsibility programme covering the welfare of our people, communities and the environment.

Dean Clamp, Wincanton’s HSEQ director, said of the accreditation: “Health and safety lies at the heart of our operations and is our number one priority. I’m pleased to see our efforts in this area rewarded with such a prestigious accreditation. It’s even more pleasing that we have been awarded the SafeContractor Plus accreditation which also acknowledges our initiatives in diversity, equality and sustainability.”

Gemma Archibald, director of Alcumus SafeContractor, added: “Our SafeContractor Plus accreditation takes into account a number of things which demonstrate a level of dedication to health and safety, diversity and equality above and beyond our standard SafeContractor accreditation scheme. Wincanton has been able to demonstrate, through its track record and corporate social responsibility, a dedication to these elements.”

The accreditation covers all contracts made under Wincanton Group for warehousing, transport and distribution. Pullman Fleet Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wincanton already possesses its own SafeContractor accreditation.
