street New Light Factory Cranes for Better Handling and Streamlined ProductionA new range of light factory cranes incorporating profile section beams has been launched by Street Crane Company.  Best known as a manufacturer of heavy duty overhead travelling cranes in the two to 200 tonne range, Street Crane now offer a light crane system for handling smaller products and components from five to 2000Kg.

Flexibility is a key feature of the light crane system and various configurations are available to meet different handling needs including overhead cranes, jib cranes and mono-rail tracks.  The light crane systems are particularly suited to assembly operations in manufacturing cells.  Jib cranes are ideal for loading and offloading components from machines and the tracked cranes for transportation of goods and components into storage or between workstations.  Switch tracks, turntables and telescopic crane arms permit easy transfer of loads between jib, rail and beam cranes or other handling devices, to streamline manufacturing operations.

The cranes contribute to the health and safety by eliminating injury by lifting strain or repetitive operations.  Street Crane sees the new cranes as being a major boost to productivity and efficiency.  “In many factories operators wait for the main crane to become available to load or unload their machines.  This is inefficient and very costly.  Lost time of skilled machine operators is compounded by expensive machining centres not being used to their full capacity,” explained Street Crane managing director Andrew Pimblett.

The crane beams are made from complex rolled steel profiles that give an exceptional strength to weight ratio.  This makes them easy to install, imposing minimal load on existing structures.  Where this is impractical the cranes can be supported by floor mounted gantries.  Motorised long and cross travel movement is available, but is not essential in most light to medium assembly operations.  The low rolling resistance of the light weight cranes requires a force of only one percent of the imposed load so lateral or cross beam movement is possible by manual means.

Street Crane, the UK largest factory crane maker, operate throughout the UK and can give manufacturers setting up or modifying their production process advice on the most effective handling systems for each situation.  The company also operate internationally via local distributors and partners who can also provide system design and selection expertise.
