Industry-leading gas measurement and control experts, Chell Instruments, have upgraded their leading Flight Pressure Acquisition System, the flightDAQ2, with enhanced features and improved usability.
The flightDAQ2 is a flight pressure scanner specifically for test cell and flight use, delivering pressure data quality of up to 0.02% of full scale. With it, aerospace engineers have made informed decisions within jet engine, airframe and electrified flight development.
Incorporating features from their proven and highly accurate microDAQ3 scanner, the new flightDAQ2 now includes absolute transducers and convenient electrically driven valve for purge and re-zero functions, removing the need for high pressure supply lines.
“We’re pleased to have made further developments to our leading flightDAQ2. As a company supporting the aerospace sector with innovative pressure scanning solutions, we are always looking for ways to enhance our technology with features that drive data-led design decisions for aircraft engineers” says Jamie Shanahan, Director of Chell Instruments.
The flightDAQ2 is designed for both on-engine and airframe applications, is tested to DO-160G and features cutting-edge digital transducers for unparalleled performance in harsh test environments.
The new model will output differential or absolute measurements over Ethernet, Chell native protocol, IENA and CAN at speeds up to 400Hz per channel.

As a new feature, the sensor also incorporates a quick disconnect plate for easy reconfiguration.
“Designed for the demanding conditions of aircraft testing, the flightDAQ2 utilises 24-bit ADC per channel to deliver engineering unit pressure data that’s fully compensated for any thermal effects. It also features an in-built heater to maintain valve operation for altitudes where temperatures can dramatically decrease, operating as low as minus 55°C degrees” adds Jamie.
North Walsham-based Chell Instruments manufacture and supply pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement equipment for key sectors, including aerospace, pharmaceuticals, energy and motorsport.
Since 1976, Chell Instruments have supported aerospace, with their products, services and support employed by the leaders in jet engine (gas turbine) manufacturing for both commercial and military aircraft.
“At Chell Instruments, our equipment and technology are involved at the forefront of modern aerospace development, helping increase performance and efficiency from conventional aircraft to electrified aviation. The updated flightDAQ2 reflects our dedication to innovation and accuracy in any environment where precision is critical” concludes Jamie.
