(CIC) of Abu Dhabi purchased its first ESAB Warrior 500i multi-purpose welding machine in 2013 because of its versatility and the support services that ESAB could offer. It immediately proved its suitability for the welding applications required and since then the company has gone on to invest in 47 more.

CIC fabricates and assembles cranes, including ship-to-shore and gantry cranes used to handle containers. The company is also looking to extend its services into the fabrication of products such as oil and gas modules, fixed platforms, top side decks and jackets. Quality, safety and environmental standards are major commitments for CIC and many of its welders already had extensive previous experience with constant voltage and constant current welding.

To achieve cost savings in their welding operations, CIC listened closely to ESAB’s proposals, paying particular attention to the features of the Warrior 500i including its inverter technology for energy efficient performance. The decision to invest was also based on Warrior’s multi-process capability covering Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), which is employed extensively by CIC, Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), and arc gouging.

Other key features were the Warrior 500i’s light weight, portability and manoeuvrability, given that many welding and gouging operations would have to be carried out on top of cranes. The Warrior 500i is also generator- compatible and can work with both 300 and 200 mm welding wire spools for lighter weight and portability.

They have transformed the company’s welding operation with high quality bead appearance, less weld defects and no loss of welding consumables during arc starts and stops. They deliver superior arc welding performance, including a stable arc and fast response to changes at the arc.

The connection cable set has power, gas and control in an all-in-one bundle, helping to reduce set-up times. Maintenance requirements are kept to a minimum and overall the Warrior 500i’s are fully operational for over 60% of the time that they are switched on ensuring high productivity levels are constantly maintained. From a practical viewpoint, the Warrior’s durable external body and its IP23 rating are designed to endure harsh outdoor environments whilst its 2.0mm steel side panels protect it against collision and unexpected impact.
