Chicken & Sons Cyclekit has successfully expanded its storage capacity with the installation of an oversailing floor conveniently positioned and supported over an existing shelving system utilising the full height of its storage and distribution facility in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Chicken Cyclekit sources and provides goods to serious cyclists in the UK from the best cycle component suppliers in the world.

Having invested heavily in state of the art IT and logistics the business has continued to grow, hence the need for increased storage space.

Having installed Chicken Cyclekit’s original standard R3000 shelving system, SSI Schaefer was called back in to design and quote for a standard ‘traditional’ mezzanine floor, the preferred option, rather than buying into a permanent on-site structure.

Aaron Thornton, project manager at SSI Schaefer, suggested an oversailing floor, he says: “Providing a flexible oversailing floor for increased storage capacity removes the need to invest heavily in a fixed solution that can be limited when adjusting to future business developments or expansion plans.”

The oversailing floor was welcomed for its adaptable structure and easy dismantling frame and installed with ease onto the existing single level R3000 shelving. The additional multi-tier floor now holds a vast range of bikes and bike frames easing storage pressure throughout the facility.

Mike Catlin of Chicken Cyclekit says: “SSI Schaefer has enabled us to expand our existing storage capabilities without having to move site or install an expensive and disruptive extension. We maintained our customer service levels throughout the installation of the new floor and we now have the extra space to hold new supplier product lines with ease.”
