goplasticpallets.com, the responsible plastic pallet company, has donated a number of medium-duty plastic pallets to The North Star
The North Star is a new charity-owned pub in Brighton that is on a mission to help young people with learning disabilities to find their feet in the world of work.
The 1200mm x 1000mm open-deck pallets are being used in the cellar to support stock storage in a clean, stable and efficient way.
The North Star – which opened its doors on Wednesday 19th November – is owned and operated by the charity Team Domenica, who “equip people with learning disabilities and autism with the skills, confidence and independence they need to gain meaningful employment and thrive.”
The pub will soon launch an on-site school for 19 to 24 year-olds, where candidates can learn key skills and gain real work experience across the kitchen, bar and wider operation.
Team Domenica already runs three coffee shops across Brighton, each providing the same supportive, real work environment. By opening its first pub, the charity is expanding the breadth of opportunities available to its candidates, helping them prepare for a wider range of roles and workplaces.
The charity initially approached goplasticpallets.com to request a quote for the pallets, but after learning more about its mission, the decision was made to donate them free of charge.
The six medium duty pallets supplied are part of the company’s standard UK-size range and are designed for repeat use in demanding environments. Manufactured from durable, hygienic plastic, they offer a robust and reusable alternative to wood, do not absorb moisture, and are easy to clean – making them particularly well suited for cellar and hospitality environments.
At the end of their long service life, the pallets are fully recyclable, supporting a more sustainable approach to material use.
Gareth Lewis, General Manager at The North Star, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support from goplasticpallets.com. Their donation has helped us set up our cellar safely and efficiently, and it’s great to see a local business backing our work in the community. These pallets will play a small but important part in helping us run a professional, fully functioning bar and training environment for our candidates.”
Andy Starkey, Business Development Manager at goplasticpallets.com, said: “We are pleased to support Team Domenica with this donation. Their work has a meaningful impact on people’s lives, and once we learned more about the opening of The North Star and their wider mission, it felt right to help in any way we could. We wish them all the very best with The North Star and we look forward to visiting the team soon.”
