Henkel is the world market leader in engineering adhesives for structural and general bonding, thread locking and sealing, gasketing and retaining.  Its LOCTITE® branded adhesives – which include a comprehensive hazard label free range – improve product performance and cuts costs.

By taking a design approach that embraces LOCTITE adhesive technology, imagination becomes the only restriction in creating new-generation machines. The faster and more reliable the mechanisms, the higher the manufacturing output and LOCTITE adhesives are playing an increasingly important role in this regard.

With LOCTITE adhesives, common materials such as stainless steel can be bonded. Compared with other joining methods such as welding, LOCTITE adhesive bonding distributes the stress across the joint and does not alter material properties.  It also enables lightweight materials such as plastics and composites to be freely combined.

LOCTITE cyanoacrylates allow instant assembly of small parts and are complemented by LOCTITE hybrids which combine speedy cure with epoxy-strength durability. LOCTITE liquid gaskets seal and reinforce joints, enhancing their load transfer capability and LOCTITE thread lockers stop vibrational joint loosening by sealing the void between mating threads.

Whatever the substrates and conditions – if the application is technically possible Henkel has the solution.  www.henkel-adhesives.co.uk

Latest introductions include:

NEW: UNIVERSAL, BIODEGRADABLE CLEANER AND DE-GREASER

A sustainable, eco-friendly cleaner and degreaser whose wide scope of application makes it highly cost effective.  LOCTITE® SF 7840™ is water-based, solvent-free, non-toxic and non-flammable and can be used to soak, pressure wash, spray or wipe.

Supplied as a concentrate, this biodegradable product is diluted with water in accordance with the substance being removed and type of surface being cleaned.  So, dependent on the dilution level, LOCTITE SF 7840 can be used for heavy cleaning and degreasing of engines, motors, castings and dip tanks as well as less demanding tasks such as cleaning concrete floors, work areas, windows, walls, furniture and counter tops.

As a general purpose, biodegradable parts cleaner and greaser, the product is primarily formulated to tackle grease, oil, cutting fluids and workshop grime but it is also good for removing many other substances such as tar, road salt, food stains, wax, animal fat, mildew and soot.

LOCTITE SF 7840 is available in 5l and 20l pack sizes as well as in a 750ml spray bottle.  The product works optimally when used with hot water.

NEW:  MULTI-PURPOSE, HANDHELD DISPENSERS:

LOCTITE® EQ HD14 2K handheld dispensers provide users with the means to apply its two-component adhesives in all mixing ratios and viscosities.  The range comprises four models; two pneumatically-operated and two manually-operated dispensers for 200 or 400 ml cartridges.

All models are designed to directly replace existing LOCTITE 2K handheld dispensers and are compatible with all cartridge ratios; 1:1, 2:1, 4:1 and 10:1.  Conversion kits for all four ratios are included with each dispenser and cartridge kits are readily interchangeable between the manual and pneumatic models.

New on the manual dispensers is a dual drive rod mechanism and ratio selector switch for optimised dispensing performance.  The pneumatic version has a quick air exhaust mechanism to reduce drooling and increased dispense force to improve dispensing in high adhesive viscosity or flow applications.  Improved overall ergonomic design is common to both types.

IMPORTANCE OF THREAD LOCKING

Henkel is on a mission to demonstrate the importance of locking threaded assemblies against vibrational self-loosening – there are several different methods of addressing the problem of self-loosening and most of them include the use of mechanical devices to lock threads and maintain the desired clamp load.  Common solutions are a double nut that increases contact through more thread interface, a spring washer to increase bolt tension through its spring action or a nylon insert which creates interference between itself and the bolt threads.

The limitation of all these methods is that none tackle the gap that exists between the threads of the bolt and nut.  The gap appears tiny to the naked eye, but it is still large enough to allow side to side movement of the bolt within the nut caused by operational vibrations.  This movement will eventually cause the bolt to loosen, regardless of the mechanical device used to lock it.

Henkel LOCTITE have introduced a thread locking e-book which expands on why threaded assemblies fail. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the merits of adhesive thread locking, either as a stand-alone solution or to complement a mechanical thread locking device.  It also guides the reader on the choice of adhesives available and how to disassemble the fixture once thread locked.  And featured customer reports provide a good overview of how liquid thread locking is benefiting various applications.
