The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is looking for the UK’s best manufacturers as it launches Manufacturing Excellence 2012.

Philippa Oldham, head of manufacturing at the Institution, said: “If we want to see the UK economy thrive once again, we need to see a resurgence in UK manufacturing.

“Manufacturing Excellence not only identifies and celebrates outstanding UK manufacturing businesses but can help underperforming companies improve.

“Past winners have shown that by taking part and adopting best practice they can thrive, grow and become global players.

“We’re calling businesses to apply and take advantage of the programme. Entry is free and up to £20,000 free consultancy advice is up for grabs as well as the chance to win at the Manufacturing Excellence Awards in November.”

Manufacturing Excellence is one of the most successful and long established manufacturing awards programme in the UKs.

Last year’s winners included mechanical seals manufacturer AESSEAL, transit packaging manufacturer Loadhog, train manufacturer Bombardier and Agfa Graphics.

Award categories this year include Best Manufacturer, Best SME, Business Development and Change Management; Customer Focus; Financial Management; Innovation in Products and Processes; Logistics and Operational Efficiency; Partnership with Education; People Effectiveness; Sustainable Manufacturing; and Most Improved Company.
