Relevant conference sessions – three hours CPD
A packed conference agenda will see a range of relevant and thought-provoking topics addressed to ensure learning and development professionals can learn new knowledge and skills.
Sessions just added include the seminar “Mental Health First Aid in Industrial Environments” with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England and a discussion on “Utilising military leadership techniques to create high performing teams in logistics” led by Chris Gibson, MBE, of The Leadership Team.
A key focus of the forward-looking conference is the future of the industry, with sessions titled: “Why aren’t young people attracted to working in logistics?”, “The Apprenticeship Levy – making it work for your business” and “What training will be needed for an automated future?”.
Delegates can also learn “The DVSA’s thoughts on the future of vocational training” from Mark Winn, who will shortly become Chief Driving Examiner at DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency). As one of his first speaking engagements in his new position, this will be a chance to hear how he plans to put his stamp on the role at DVSA and what he hopes to achieve.

See best practice in action
Live demonstrations will take place to help managers appreciate the importance of pre-use and walk round vehicle checks and what best practice looks like. There will be two chances to see each session, both of which are designed to improve safety by helping employers to understand the key things that they, and their operators or drivers, should be aware of.
RTITB Auditor and Examiner Gavin Hutchinson will show the correct way to carry out a pre-use forklift truck inspection and explain what to do if a fault is found. A live demonstration of a walk round check of a tractor unit and trailer will be delivered by Richard Brewer, Manager of the National Register of LGV Instructors (NRI).

The exciting Grand Finals of both the 2018 Forklift Operator of the Year (sponsored by UniCarriers UK Ltd) and the Forklift Instructor of the Year (sponsored by Hyster Europe) take place live during the Talent in Logistics Conference. Both competitions demonstrate why materials handling equipment instruction and operation is so important for safe, efficient logistics operations.
