Johnson Controls’ new Tyco® Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR)-22 pendent sprinklers has been added to the Tyco line of storage sprinklers, bolstering Johnson Control’s full range of fire suppression systems for commercial settings.
Tyco® ESFR-22
The ESFR-22 can be installed in storage facilities with a ceiling height up to 45 feet and a storage arrangement of up to 40 feet without requiring in-rack sprinklers. The system can also be installed with a maximum deflector-to-ceiling distance of 18 inches.
The model ESFR-22 sprinklers are primarily used for ceiling-only sprinkler protection of most encapsulated or non-encapsulated common materials, including cartoned, unexpanded plastics, uncartoned (exposed) expanded plastics and some storage arrangements of rubber tires, roll paper, flammable liquids and aerosols.
In addition, the ESFR-22 meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and FM Global (FM Approvals) installation standards that must be used to properly design an automatic sprinkler system utilizing ESFR Sprinklers.
Tyco® EG-25 Sprinkler Guard
Another recent launch is Johnson Controls’ Tyco® EG-25 Sprinkler Guard; the first FM-approved guard on the market to meet FM Global design guidelines and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements for using a listed guard in areas where sprinklers are exposed to potential damage.
It is designed for use with TYCO ESFR-25 pendent sprinklers – providing suppression load performance with ceiling-only fire protection for a wide variety of commodities and storage arrangements. When used in in-rack applications, such as the FM Global design guidelines, the ESFR-25 can be combined with the EG-25 guard to help protect the sprinkler from damage that is common to in-rack sprinklers.
The guard’s welded assembly is fabricated from carbon steel, providing protection from mechanical and/or physical damage, including the installation of rack storage sprinklers. The guard does not require any regularly scheduled maintenance; however, proper installation of the EG-25 should be verified during the annual visual inspection of the sprinkler.
SAPPHIRE PLUS
SAPPHIRE PLUS delivers 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid – a clear, colorless agent that vaporises on discharge, absorbing heat and providing total flooding to suppress fire.
The innovative 70 bar gaseous fire suppression system enables higher fill densities of up to 1.4kg/L at an increased pressure. It also enables extended pipe runs — above 100 metres — meaning the containers can be stored further away from the protected space.
The SAPPHIRE PLUS system offers a greater degree of flexibility than with lower pressure systems, helping with the design of selector valves systems and offering opportunities for the containers to be stored remote from the protected hazards. The high safety margin of Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid would be particularly useful if standardised container fills are used in a selector valve system designs, resulting in more agent being deployed in some of the protected hazards.
In addition, SAPPHIRE PLUS is UL Listed, FM approved, EN compliant and compliant with all national and international standards such as EN 15004, ISO 14520 and NFPA 2001, allowing complete confidence in its fire suppression. With zero ozone depletion potential, a global warming potential of just 1 and a high margin of safety, it is also a safe choice for both people and the environment.
