RS Components (RS), the global distributor for engineers, is to take its innovation truck Titan II to Bett – the first industry show of 2018 in the education technology arena that celebrates, inspires and explores the role of technology and innovation in the future of education.

RS will be joined by several leading partners at the show, including Richard Browning, founder of the human propulsion technology start-up Gravity, who will be giving an inspiring talk on how perseverance and surviving failure is core to innovation this coming Thursday (25 January) at 4.30pm in the Bett Arena. This also marks the launch of an annual educational collaboration between RS and Gravity Industries that will see both businesses working closely to assist with inspiring the next generation of innovators and engineers.

Other partners include:

BloodHound SSC: the high-technology project to design and build a car that will break the 1,000mph barrier and set a new world land speed record. Many of Bloodhound SSC parts are supplied by RS.

Arduino: an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. The kits, available from RS, are great for experimenting with, as well as learning and mastering the basics of electronic engineering.

Land Rover 4×4 in Schools Technology Challenge: an educational initiative supported by RS as UK Technical Partner. Teams of students, aged 11-19, design and build remote controlled four-wheel drive vehicles to present to an expert judging panel.

RS will be one of the 850 leading companies at the show, being held at ExCel in London from tomorrow (24 January) until 27 January, which will also feature over 100 exciting new edtech start-ups. The show attracts around 35,000 attendees from the global education community, bringing them together to discover game-changing innovations that can be explored in the classroom.

There will be a team from RS on hand to help in this mission – which mirrors its own for the inspired campaign – comprising STEM ambassadors and representatives of the company’s innovative DesignSpark community.

RS education events manager, Laura Giddings, said: “This is the first time RS will be participating at Bett and the first time Titan II will be seen by thousands of global educators. Our presence at Bett represents our continued commitment to addressing the engineering skills shortage by educating and inspiring the next generation of engineers and encouraging schools to promote this in their curriculum. We will continue to work with our partners to raise awareness of our STEM strategy that forms a part of our ‘for the inspired campaign’. Bett is the perfect platform to kick this off in 2018.

The re-vamped 35-tonne truck, Titan II, includes technologies such as the company’s DesignSpark platform, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, robotics, Internet of Things and thermal imaging – as well as virtual reality and augmented reality technology to really bring innovation to life.
