The awards, which took place at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London on 15th October 2015, celebrate innovative achievements within the heating, ventilating and building services industries. They aim to recognise excellence in each individual field, outstanding technology and exceptional customer service. This year, the eight categories ranged from Contractor of the Year to Customer Service Person of the Year. Each category was scrutinised by judges BSRIA Principal Research Engineer, Dr Arnold Teekaram, ICOM director, Ross Anderson, FETA’s commercial manager Martyn Cooper and finally, Jack McDavid, who is Head of Communications, Public Affairs and B&ES.

In both categories, Sontay was awarded the prestigious accolade for the innovative SonNet system. This wireless sensing system provides accurate measurement of temperature, relative humidity and CO2 within a building. Once the network is complete, it is then able to communicate its readings reliably to its control system. The SonNet system offers system integrators, building consultants and end-users access to smarter, wireless measurement and control. Users are promised the benefits of occupant comfort and energy savings, as well as the ability for listed or heritage buildings the advantage of a controlled environment.

SonNet’s numerous praiseworthy features separated it from the other nominees to achieve its highly commended title. For example, SonNet is the only reliable, wireless sensor solution available on the market, so it automatically stands out from other wired sensor systems. The sensors can also be paired with a range of wireless routers to boost any areas of low signal strength.

The judges were also impressed by SonNet’s energy efficiency  in the Sustainable Product of the Year category. The complete flexibility of the SonNet wireless system on-site makes this product truly sustainable. The SonNet sensors that make up the system can easily be repositioned and reconnected. This guarantees that the readings relayed to the BMS are accurate and will provide building owners with the correct information. This will allow them to secure energy efficiency savings for the full lifetime of the building.

Joanne Stopps was also acknowledged as a worthy finalist in the tough Customer Service category. Joanne has been a Sales Support Advisor and a leading manufacturer of field control devices in the HVAC and climate control industry for the last five years. She was put forward by Sontay as a result of always going that extra mile to solve a customer’s problem or help in any way she can. For her, this often involves thinking outside of the box to find a solution and making sure customers receive the best service and support. Sontay is very proud of its staff member for coming so close to taking home the prize.

Sontay’s Managing Director, Sandy Damm, was delighted by the company’s performance at the awards ceremony. He states: ‘It’s always a pleasure to be recognised as doing well within our industry. Being Highly Commended in the Commercial/Industrial Heating Product of the Year demonstrates that we are leading the field in terms of heating and the Sustainable Product of the Year reveals that Sontay is planning for the future and adhering to the important factor of protecting the planet. We hope to go on and have even more success in 2016 as we did this year.’
