Whether in mechanical engineering, in plant construction or in vehicle construction, the requirements are steadily increasing and require an even greater degree of reliability and protection against external influences, like protection against water and dust. With increasing demands on machines, the standards placed on the components installed there are also increasing. As a manufacturer in the field of cable management, icotek’s task is to develop appropriate solutions for emerging problems.
At the beginning of the product development, the goal was to develop a very robust and at the same time divisible cable gland. The key was to develop a divisible component that could withstand heavy, external influences reliably. Not only “internally tested”, but officially by a certified testing laboratory, which has been tested and certified according to applicable standards. The use should be quick and easy and give the user as much flexibility as possible. In addition to these product-specific characteristics, there was also the goal of realizing a visually appealing and functional product design.
These requirements resulted in the development process from which the new KVT-ER emerged (cable gland splittable, extremely robust).
The KVT-ER fulfills the IP protection classes IP65, IP66, IP67 and IP68 and is certified according to DIN EN 60529: 2014. The high protection classes are achieved by a high pressure as well as by an integrated seal. In the area of the end cover, as on the back of the cable gland, an elastomeric seal is incorporated internally. No additional, external gasket is needed. This design principle is already known from other ER models from icotek and has been tried and tested in practice.
The contact pressure arises when screwing the end cover with the lower part. The screwing is done by default with supplied black V2A screws, these are screwed through the injected threaded bushes. The manufacturer recommends a tightening torque of max. 2 NM. The integrated strain relief complies with DIN EN 62444 and ensures automatic relief of the cables used. Certifications such as NEMA TYPE 12, NEMA TYPE 4X and cURus are also granted. The KVT-ER series already fulfill all the requirements of EN 45545-2 HL 3 in the field of railway technology and accordingly finds suitable use in the railway sector. The cable gland is based on standardized metric standard outbreaks in sizes M25, M32, M50 and M63. The back screwing is done by means of the supplied locknut. For the introduction of e.g. Icotek offers special KGM locknuts with recesses for SUB-D plugs.
The slotted KT cable grommets from icotek are used for flexible cable entry. Due to the slitting of the KT grommets, cables with a diameter between 1 and 35 mm can be made. For cable grommets not equipped with wires, ST plugs are available from icotek to ensure safe and clean sealing. The IP protection of the grommets is retained! The cable grommets and plugs are also compatible with other icotek products.
Due to the resistance to industrial cleaners (ECOLAB certified), the use in areas such as Food & Beverage, Healthcare etc. is ideally suited.
If the cable gland is used in the EMC area, the use of the KVT-EMC shield clamp bracket is recommended. A direct dissipation of electromagnetic interference is hereby ensured and thus represents a viable and economical alternative to conventional EMC cable glands.
So there are many different areas of application and types of KVT-ER useful to use. For every construction requires the security of a reliable statement. After all, the requirements for cable entries are always the same: simple handling, quick assembly and disassembly as well as protective and secured properties against external influences.
