SSI Schaefer has supplied nineteen thousand plastic trays to Gebhardt European Conveyor Systems as part of a unique solution to handle component parts for a major manufacturer in the UK automotive industry
The trays, which are part of SSI Schaefer’s extensive range of more than 2,200 plastic containers, are designed to support potentially unconveyable plastic and cardboard boxes and they are the first of their type to be supplied by the manufacturer for use in the UK automotive market.
Each heavy duty tray is made from injection-moulded polypropylene to a bespoke design with a reinforced base which gives it a capacity of 70 kg. The two sizes supplied to Gebhardt European Conveyor Systems are designed to accommodate and convey 800×600 mm and 1200×800 mm BDC containers with those carrying the larger sizes being mirror-welded to provide the extra capacity.
The trays deliver a means for seamless, efficient material flows, combining easy transportation on conveyor systems with automated rapid storage and retrieval.
