Vibration level can always indicate the health of a system, so a simple way of keeping an eye on the vibration is a boon to any operator. The VK vibration monitor from ifm electronic monitors the overall vibration condition of machines and assets, as defined by the international standard ISO 10816, and it does so continuously. This cost-effective solution offers the chance to check the condition of assets that might otherwise be neglected due to the cost of traditional monitoring.
ifm’s VK sensor measures the root mean square vibration velocity on a non-rotating component surface, and this is simple to select using the dial on the sensor which is calibrated in both mm/s and inches/s. It is also a simple matter to set a time delay using the other dial. If the acceleration continues to be exceeded beyond the selected time limit, the unit alarms via a switched output.
Additionally, the measured value is provided as current signal (4…20 mA) for further evaluation in the process control system.
This simple device provides constant vibration monitoring with no need for expensive equipment or expert analysis with an easy operating concept. There is also an optional protective cap, which can be obtained as an accessory, to ensure protection against tampering.
The device requires a nominal 24V DC supply, but can even operate on 9.6V if the analogue signal is not required, and the output can switch up to 500mA.
The measured acceleration range is either up to 25 or up to 50mm/s, depending on the model chosen, over a frequency range of 10 to 10,000Hz. The time delay before the output switches is selectable from one to sixty seconds, compensating for the effects of temporary loading or shocks.
With construction out of stainless steel and plastic, this robust device will withstand most environments and short-term immersion with its IP67 rating. Connection is via an industry-standard M12 connector.
