Welshpool-based logistics experts Speed Welshpool has announced that it is to invest over £150k in a new, purpose-built depot that will create jobs and provide greater distribution support for local businesses.

The Palletways network member is set to move into a 3.5 acre brownfield site at Buttington Quarry in September, which will house two state-of-the-art storage buildings capable of housing 2,000 pallets and offering 40,000 sq ft of warehousing for local businesses.

Speed Welshpool have grown from just 10 staff in 2010 to over 40 staff today, and expect that the new site will create another 20 jobs in the next 12 months.

Phil Edwards, Managing Director of Speed Welshpool, said: “The development of this new depot will enable us to greatly enhance the efficiency and capacity of our distribution service, enabling us to provide an improved service to businesses across Mid-Wales and Shropshire”.

“As part of the Palletways network, the new facilities will enable us to collect consignments from local businesses later in the day, while still offering next day delivery across Europe, getting their goods to market faster than ever before”.

In addition to extended European services, Speed Welshpool will also be introducing a number of other services, including bespoke logistics/pick & pack and UK groupage.

Speed Welshpool is one of over 100 members in the Palletways UK network – Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. The company’s distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies who share each other’s resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before.
