Coinciding with Honeywell’s Movilizer Days 2017 event in Mannheim, Germany last week, the company announced its latest Connected Supply Chain and Connected Worker solutions via a live online broadcast. Designed to help businesses boost productivity and ensure compliance – with the data and analytics to make more informed decisions – these technology innovations will connect workers and drive efficiencies.

As warehouses, distribution centres and manufacturing plants come under ever-higher pressure to increase efficiency and productivity, there has never been a more critical time to make solid investments in digital technology. Operations are looking for ways to future-proof their supply chains and ensure regulatory compliance, while keeping their workers safe. Moving beyond point solutions to connect the entire ecosystem is what will keep companies ahead of the curve.

As well as this, a new hardware and software platform for the next generation of Honeywell’s mobile computers was also launched. The Mobility Edge Platform comprises common hardware architecture and a suite of tools on which Honeywell and its partners will build future mobility solutions, which include rugged handheld computers, wearable devices, voice-directed technology, tablets and vehicle-mounted computers.

The platform is designed for Google’s Android operating system, which Honeywell says is increasingly becoming the standard for industrial mobile devices.

The company also announced the Dolphin CT60 handheld computer, the first new mobile device to run on the Mobility Edge Platform. The rugged device is designed for transportation, logistics and retail workers and offers an extended battery life, high-performance scanning and other productivity features.

“After talking to many of our strategic customers and partners, we rethought the approach to solving the constraints they face today on mobile deployments,” said Peter Howes, president of Honeywell’s Productivity Products business. “Our customers require something more comprehensive and scalable, and that is what we are introducing with the Mobility Edge Platform.

“Because we built the Mobility Edge Platform with an Android-first mindset, businesses will have the confidence that our devices will support future versions of the operating system without making new hardware investments. Leveraging a single, unified platform will make adding new devices and testing and deploying business-critical mobile hardware and software easier and faster.”

New rugged enterprise tablet

Also, Honeywell’s new enterprise-ready tablet, the ScanPal EDA70 provides workers with real-time connectivity for business-critical applications and efficient data capture capabilities.

The lightweight, rugged tablet is built on the Android 7 (Nougat) platform and is suitable for scan-intensive workflows such as customer engagement and on-demand delivery. The device keeps mobile workers always connected to crucial information to place orders, check stock, look up order status or scan items as they are removed for delivery.

The ScanPal EDA70 features 1D/2D barcode scanning, a built-in camera and a vivid seven-inch Corning Gorilla Glass display readable in bright light.

Honeywell also offers a full suite of accessories for the device, including desktop charging/docking systems and battery charging base.

New mobile computer offers enterprises long product lifecycle and support for future Android versions

Honeywell has also launched the new Dolphin CT60 rugged mobile computer, providing enterprises and their workers with real-time connectivity to business-critical applications and fast data capture capabilities.

This supports four Android generations – 7.1 through Q – to provide customers with a long product lifecycle and making it easy for IT departments to quickly certify and deploy software applications.

The device is built on the Mobility Edge Platform, which is a unified hardware and software platform for the next generation of the company’s mobile devices. This platform is a combination of a common hardware architecture and enterprise lifecycle tools designed t drive an integrated, repeatable, scalable approach for accelerated and secure development, deployment, performance management and lifecycle management.

The Dolphin CT60 features an IP65 and IP67 rating to protect against dust and water spray; the ability to withstand multiple 1.5-meter drops onto concrete; fast and accurate 1D and 2D scanning that can quickly read damaged barcodes; and 4G LTE and NFC connectivity with a long-lasting battery power to provide workers with all-day connectivity to business-critical data and systems.
