Proseal has further extended its range of vacuum tray sealers with the launch of a model specifically designed for skin packs.

The Proseal GT1VS features a servo-driven infeed conveyor and high accuracy tray positioning system and accepts randomly spaced trays in all types of materials at sealing speeds of up to 24 packs per minute depending on the product

Skin packs feature a special film that seals to all surfaces of a tray – rim, sidewalls and base – to tightly cover the entire contents.  The packs have been used predominantly for fish products in the past but are being increasing seen for other types of foods such as ready to cook meals, game, meat and sausage products, and mini joints.

Wrapping the seal around the contents means products can be vacuumed packed for extended shelf life without the need for gas flushing.   At the same time, because there is no gas headspace required, tray heights can be reduced, thus saving on packaging materials.  The sealing system also means product can extend over the height of the tray.  Environmental benefits include lower weight and reduced handling and storage costs for the packs, and the minimising of food waste.

Skin packs offer enhanced on-shelf presentation, enabling products and accompaniments or garnishes to be clearly seen, while packs can be placed upright to maximise shelf space.  The tight seals also eliminate leakage for products containing sauces.

The GT1VS incorporates a special auto connect tool docking facility, with lead-less and hose-less connection of both gas and electrical supply, to enable tool changes to be carried out in a matter of minutes.  It also offers maximum flexibility with the option to run multiple depth trays on a single tool set.

The food industry approved construction with wash-down protection incorporates a number of features for maximum hygiene and easy maintenance.  Both top and base tool elements can be split in seconds without the need for any hand tools, while the latched top tool head and base tool top ensure fast and easy access.  Tool diagnostics such as a leak test routine and cycle-time analysis can be accessed via the dual-side Touch Screen.
