From 10am until 4pm on Wednesday, 10th July 2013, the Manufacturing and Engineering Expo will be held at the No 5 Slipway, Historic Dockyard at Chatham, Kent. An inspirational business-to-business show, the focused event has been designed to support and showcase everything that is great about the engineering and manufacturing sector. It will provide an environment where industry professionals can assess and compare the latest products and services for engineering, electronics and manufacturing.

Visitor registration is open now at www.manufacturingandengineeringexpo.co.uk

As well as the opportunity to see over 80 exhibitors showcasing their latest products and services for engineering and manufacturing, visitors will also be able to listen to keynote speakers from the aerospace, medical and electronics industry sectors. Workshops are scheduled to run throughout the day and another key draw for visitors to the expo is the chance to meet buyers from large organisations during a short and focused business consultation.

Headline sponsors and major exhibitors include Medway Council, BAE Systems Electronic Systems – Rochester, MAS (the Manufacturing Advisory Service), and the University of Greenwich, which is backing Medway’s new University Technical College. Also backed by BAE Systems Rochester, the UTC will specialise in engineering and construction studies for 14 to 19 year olds. Demonstration areas will include training, education and skills; innovation; communications and IT; and, electronics and manufacturing solutions.

Visitors and exhibitors can meet, network and find potential new suppliers, customers and business partners, with the event encouraging local purchasing and new supply chains. Investment and funding opportunities for businesses will be highlighted, with clear and concise information on access to finance.

“One of the challenges set by the expo,” explains Jo James, Chief Executive of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, “is to change the perception of engineering to students. This is why we have arranged a brief visit to the show for Year 10 pupils (14 to 15 year old) from schools in the surrounding areas.”

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a maritime museum on part of the site of the former royal/naval dockyard at Chatham in Medway, South East England.

Chatham Dockyard covered 400 acres (1.6 km²) and was one of the Royal Navy‘s main facilities for several hundred years until it was closed in 1984. After closure the dockyard was divided into three sections. The easternmost basin was handed over to Medway Ports and is now a commercial port. Another slice was converted into a mixed commercial, residential and leisure development. Around 80 acres (324,000 m²), comprising the 18th century core of the site, was transferred to a charity called the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust and is now open as a visitor attraction. It claims to be the world’s most complete dockyard from the Age of Sail.
