uvex has been selected as a finalist in this year’s BSIF Innovation Awards for its xact-fit, an innovative concept in hearing protection that makes ear plugs an individual fit similar to that of left and right handed gloves. The winner is scheduled to be announced at the Safety & Health Expo on 14th May 2013.

The ergonomically designed stems and the oval foam pods mimic the shape and contours of the ear canal making the fitting of the uvex xact-fit hygienic, convenient and easy.

The uvex xact-fit is suitable for noise environments below 100 decibels or for those people exposed to intermittent noise or people moving in and out of noise areas.

It is corded for increased security and the replaceable pods increase the life and value of the product.

The uvex hi-com is another hearing protector. The oval shape, moulded from soft PU foam is the same shape as the ear canal, therefore, making it comfortable. The design of the uvex hi-com not only reduces background noise but retains excellent speech recognition through the increased surface contact between the plug and the ear canal.  It also significantly reduces the annoying and distracting inner sounds that other earplugs reflect back to the ear-drum.

Both these hearing protection products are manufactured by SwedSafe, a completely sustainable plant in Sweden now owned by uvex. SwedSafe has an ultra modern production facility, incorporating its own research and development activities, and has rapidly become one of the leading producers in its field.

Nigel Day, product manager of uvex UK, comments: “These two products set new benchmarks for hearing protection, providing wearers with products that are easy to fit and comfortable to wear, as well as being practical for various noisy working environments and circumstances. From the oil and gas industry, power generation, engineering, construction, utilities to production and assembly, uvex puts the wearers first “.
