A group of manufacturers recently identified £175,000 and 826 carbon tonnes of savings in an  exercise at a series of three energy saving workshops for manufacturers.

The workshops were hosted by David Crowfoot of Footwork First in conjunction with MAS SE and  environmental specialist Ecopare.

The workshops were designed to look at a manufacturer’s own facility, and the energy they use throughout its production process. Factors such as equipment, shift patterns, downtime and products were taken into account. Delegates completed both group and individual exercises to highlight their biggest energy users and ways to reduce their energy spend – both short term and long term.

Minoo Sabharwal of Indium Corporation who identified over £8,500 of savings said: “It’s great to have a good understanding of our energy costs, relative to other manufacturers, and realise how we can make changes ourselves.”

David Huddart of Hornby Hobbies who identified £30,000 of reductions added: “Listening to other manufacturers is really helpful. It enabled us to understand how we can save money and energy in our business.”

David Crowfoot of Footwork First comments: “All too often the energy bills manufacturers receive are extremely complex and so it’s vital to understand them properly, break them down and identify whether they were paying over the odds compared to other manufacturers in the same sector.”
