Employees who work on their feet for prolonged periods can be at risk of a multitude of health issues including sore feet, swelling of the legs, muscle fatigue, lower back pain and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) – injuries or disorders that affect the human body’s movement. Around 214,000 cases of work related back pain were reported in 2015/16 according to the Health & Safety Executive, with almost 3.5 million working days lost in total.1

Often the focus is on footwear when assessing the risk of fatigue and MSDs from standing for a whole shift, but in fact what is under the soles can be far more important.

Adam Ward, ?PPE Product Manager at Brammer and Buck & Hickman, considers the role of anti-fatigue matting in reducing the risk of MSDs amongst workers who regularly stand on the job – and why there is more to offer than insoles and ergonomic footwear.
