Multi Stage, Multi-Function and Fully Configurable

Piab introduces new exciting features to the already successful piCOMPACT®23 that solve pains for customers, further improve productivity and saves energy. The piCOMPACT®23 platform is also upgraded with ability to configure manifold mounted and split units. Piab is also proud to introduce our first IO-Link product. piCOMPACT®23 is available with IO-Link, a standardized IO technology (IEC 61131-9) for data communication.

The new piCOMPACT®23 features address needs from several of our core industries such as automotive, packaging, glass, woodworking and also ergonomic manipulators.

Added Benefits Summary

Installation

  • The full program (manifold mount, split etc.) gives even more flexibility for easy and optimized installations.
  • Split units can help improve cycle time and give better productivity thanks to vacuum generation closer to point of suction.
  • Very low noise level compared to competitive compact ejectors when using the central silencer (3/4”).
  • Central exhaust pipe can be used to pipe away exhaust and even further reduce noise level.

New valve option

Bi-stable (latching) on/off valve, provides security in case of emergency stop. The impulse controlled valve stays in last position (5), open or closed. Compared to a normally open on/off valve it will also save a lot of unnecessary air consumption if the units are in “vacuum off” part of the cycle when E-Stop is hit.

New blow-off features

  • Weak blow-off is an issue in large systems with restrictions – a lot of blow air goes through the ejector and exhaust, slowing down the cycle time and requiring more energy. Amplified Blow-off (ABO) provide much faster cycle times and less energy consumption during blow-off. Especially beneficial in sealed applications for large systems with flow restrictions. Patented valve design, less sensitive to dust/dirt vs. competition.
  • Pre Vacuum Hovering function (PVH) makes it possible to” hover” with suction cups and still use a central vacuum ejector. ”Hovering” before vacuum “on” facilitates positioning of cups and cleans surface. Resulting in a safer and better grip (improved reliability), crucial for ergonomic manipulators.
  • IBO – Intelligent Blow-off is an alternative to save compressed air for part release. In many vacuum applications the big air consumer is part release. Blow-off duration is optimized and blow-air will automatically stop when all vacuum is removed from the system. IBO helps shorten the cycle time since excessive blow-off duration is eliminated.

Other benefits

SAC (Self Adhesion Control) automatically removes unwanted and self-created low vacuum with short air puffs. The benefits are less risk for damage (people and object) as well as smoother operation (productivity).

piCOMPACT® IO-Link benefits

  • Simpler communication – IO-Link is a powerful and secure, yet easy to understand protocol. Compared to 24VDC or analogue communication, IO-Link can provide significantly more information, configurability and control
  • International, open and independent standard. IO-Link also has a great support in the industry
  • IO-Link works with any fieldbus as it acts as a gateway. The IO-Link master provides a universal solution for protocols such as Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS and Device Net. You can easily integrate the IO-Link master into an industrial network with existing and new installations.
  • Improved operating efficiency with simple parametrization and Device identification. IO-Link’s ability to identify devices and provide access to the devices’ parameters gives you much more freedom and flexibility to set-up the piCOMPACT®23 according to specific needs.
  • The automated parameter setting also ensures that the parameter data of a device is not lost when a device is being replaced. This way, on your dreaded night shift, changing complex compact ejectors is just plug-n-play.
  • Recipe changes on the line are a breeze too. For example, if you have a piCOMPACT®23 configured to detect a bag at -35kPa and for the next batch, with more sensitive bags, you want to start detecting already at -25kPa with IO-Link it is simply a matter of sending a parameter for the piCOMPACT®23 – instead of sending a maintenance person to change the settings on the vacuum sensor itself — saving valuable time on the line.
  • Standard wiring can be used. Electrical connection M12, compatible with low cost standard cables No shielded cables are required.
  • Simple to install – Conventional technology requires at least two I/O blocks for each ejector in order to separate its input from its output, and in applications where analogue signals are also used, another I/O block needs to be added. Each port of an IO-Link master will handle all these signals, significantly reducing the amount of cabling.
  • Better diagnostics improve productivity with less downtime – IO-Link offers a data storage function, enabling operators to quickly identify why a device or operation might have failed.
  • Easy set-up – Piab’s IO Device Description software tool (IODD) for piCOMPACT®23 is intuitive and easy to understand.
  • Only the piCOMPACT® IO-Link version has a patented feature where a trigger “signal” (output data) is received when Blow-off is completed (BOC) for units with integrated automatic blow-off functions such as the ATBO or IBO making it very easy to always program for fastest possible cycle time.
